Wycoller The Atom

Located within the beautiful surroundings of Wycoller Country Park. "The Atom" planting area offers splendid views across the Wycoller Valley and the historic Wycoller village itself. The site was generously made available to Life for a Life for the purpose of memorial tree planting by Lancashire Council in 2019, who manage the whole conservation area that makes up Wycoller Country Park.

The memorial forest takes its name from the Atom panopticon, an art installation that was installed at the site in 2006 and is one of four panopticons placed across East Lancashire to create a series of 21st Century landmarks. Visitors who stand inside the Atom can take in the breath-taking Pendle landscape.

The planting area will accommodate a mixture of broadleaf tree species including Rowan (Mountain Ash), English Oak, Silver Birch, Holly, Hawthorn and Hazel and has ample car parking nearby. A key consideration for those wishing to plant a memorial tree at the Atom site is that the terrain is quite steep and therefore not suitable for those with poor mobility.

Life for a Life planting areas are natural environments where we encourage wildlife and plantlife to flourish, as such additional items should not be added to the tree or the space around it, especially as they can cause damage to the tree. Please be aware that any prohibited items left on or around memorial trees will be removed.
