Officially opened in 2020, the Hermitage Fields Memorial Woodland was made available for tree planting by Lancaster City Council. The newly established partnership with Lancaster City Council will see many improvements to the site including pathway and access works as well as establishing the new memorial woodland.

The memorial tree planting areas sits within a location that is renowned for its' beautiful landscape and scenery, it is so beautiful that the vista was painted by famous landscape impressionist J. M. W. Turner (1775 " 1851) in a painting which led English art critic John Ruskin of the Victorian era to describe the works and the panorama it is based on as 'one of the loveliest views in England, and therefore the world'.

The memorial woodland does not just benefit from beautiful views but has easy parking nearby which also includes toilet facilities, picnic area and cafe known locally as Woodies. Visitors can also make use of the River Lune Millennium Park that links Caton and Lancaster but also links up to our Crook 'o' Lune memorial forest and wildflower meadows.

Life for a Life planting areas are natural environments where we encourage wildlife and plantlife to flourish, as such additional items should not be added to the tree or the space around it, especially as they can cause damage to the tree. Please be aware that any prohibited items left on or around memorial trees will be removed.
